Instructions for Using Electronic Bluebook (EBB)
Using Electronic BluebookTM (EBB) at Georgia State University College of Law.
You will first need to PRINT out these instructions prior to typing the Practice Exam below.
1.Technical Requirements:
Electronic Bluebook requires that your computer be a PC which uses Microsoft® Windows XP®, Microsoft Windows Vista®, Microsoft Windows 7® or Windows 2000® as its original and primary operating system or a Macintosh MacBook running OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later. Language settings must be set to "English" and keyboard input settings must be set to English - U.S. For assistance with those settings, see our Windows instructions or Mac instructions (Mac instructions require Adobe Reader).
Your computer must be able to connect to the Internet during the exam, with either a wired Ethernet connection or a wireless network connection. For optimal performance we strongly recommend you use a wired Ethernet connection.
2. Downloading and Installing EBB:
(a) You must download and install the new version the day before exams begin.
(b) In order to download, go to http://law.gsu.edu/registrar/exam_software where you must logon with your Campus ID and password. The page will contain the current exam software versions for both PC's and Mac's.
(c) Windows users: To download the software, go to: http://law.gsu.edu/registrar/exam_software
Click on the file download link. If you are using Internet Explorer you may select "Run the software." If you are using Firefox or another browser, save the file to a known location, then run the application to begin the installation. Windows Vista users: after you select the "Finish" button, the installation program will take a few more minutes to install components. Please let this process finish before trying to run EBB for the first time.
(d) Macintosh users: To download the software, go to: http://law.gsu.edu/registrar/exam_software
Follow steps to download. You may leave it on the desktop or move it to the Applications folder. Start the program by opening "Electronic Bluebook."
TAKING A PRACTICE EXAM (MANDATORY)
(a) Lookup your exam number for the current semester: https://gsulaw.gsu.edu/registrar/examnums/law/index.pl
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR EXAM NUMBER CHANGES EVERY SEMESTER!!!!
(b) Disable any firewall program to allow an exception for Electronic Bluebook. Turn off any 3rd party screen savers. Macintosh users also should check their firewall settings to be sure it does not block the exam upload.
(c) Click on the EBB desktop icon. Click OK. Type of exam is FINAL. Choose CURRENT SEMESTER. Enter your student email address (i.e. imalawstudent1@student.gsu.edu). Enter your CURRENT exam number. Click SUBMIT. Once you get "Activation was successful", click OK.
(d) On the next screen, enter your student exam number (3 digits), and click on PRACTICE EXAM from the drop down menu. Click Start Exam.
You will only need to download the new software in the Fall semesters. The software is designed to lock your computer and encrypt your exam answers while you are sitting for your exam. The Office of the Registrar will decrypt your exams, print them out, and deliver them to your Professors.
(e) You must type the following agreement as your practice exam. The script to be typed for the practice exam is:
Type the following:
Electronic BlueBook Agreement
I have installed the EBB software and I am typing this agreement as a test exam.
If I have doubts about my laptop's reliability or the use of EBB, I will plan to handwrite my exam.
I understand that if I am not in the assigned room at least 30 minutes before the exam, no matter the reason, I will not be eligible to take my exam on laptop and will handwrite my exam.
If I experience a problem with EBB while taking my exam, I know that I should contact the proctor, and with the proctor in attendance, reboot my computer and, when prompted, enter the "proctor password" that will be provided on the day of the exam. This process will bring back my typed material from the time of the last save (no more than 60 seconds earlier).
If my computer fails to reboot or the problem persists, I know that I must begin handwriting my answer IMMEDIATELY, from the point that I left off in my typing. I understand that I will be given the amount of time lost due to the computer issue at the end of the exam.
I will not notify my professor directly about any problems I experienced, as this may cause a breach of anonymity.

(f) Once you have typed the practice exam, click the Finish Exam button at the bottom of the typing screen. (Don't worry if you accidentally click the Finish button during your exam because you will be given a chance to return to your exam on the next screen.) You will notice either a green or yellow screen after you exit. The green screen means that the exam was saved to your computer and to the EBB server. The yellow screen means either it did not save on the network, but it will inform you that the exam has been saved to your computer's hard drive. DO NOT WORRY IF YOU RECEIVE THE YELLOW SCREEN, BECAUSE YOUR EXAM HAS BEEN SAVED TO YOUR COMPUTER.
If you get the YELLOW SCREEN, click on OK. This will take you to a manual upload page. Click on browse, go to my documents, my exams, click on the folder 2012-13, click on the practice exam you just typed, click open, click submit. You should get a notification in red that your exam successfully uploaded.
If the practice exam doesn't transfer, please send Asst. Registrar Lauren St.Clair an email at lmartin14@gsu.edu or Systems Specialist Yolanda Travis at ytravis@gsu.edu informing them that your practice exam did not transfer.
You have now completed the testing portion of the Electronic Bluebook exam software! Good Luck on your exams!
