Course Description

Capital Punishment Law. This course will examine various legal and policy issues surrounding the death penalty, including racial discrimination, the right to effective counsel, limitations on executing the mentally retarded and juveniles, and the use of "victim impact" evidence. It will emphasize the relationship between Supreme Court doctrine and real-world practice in state courts in the South.
