Course Description

This course explores the law regulating our political process-sometimes referred to as the law of democracy- and the principles that shape our political institutions and the relationship between democratic procedures and contemporary politics. With a primary focus on constitutional and federal law, the course examines individual rights of access to participation in the political process, the role of associations such as political parties and the regulation of party primaries, as well as topics such as redistricting, political and racial gerrymandering, voting rights, campaign finance, the use of direct democracy, and alternative voting systems.
