Faculty Recruitment
Welcome
We are delighted that you are interested in a faculty position at Georgia State University College of Law. This fall we are seeking applications for one tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level in the field of tax law beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year. An applicant must possess strong academic credentials and a record, or the promise of, outstanding teaching and scholarship. We especially encourage applications from racial minorities, women, and others who would enrich the diversity of our academic community.
The College of Law is located in the heart of Atlanta with approximately 650 students, nearly one-third of whom attend the part-time program. It offers its students a wide variety of tax courses. The two courses that are regularly offered are Basic Federal Taxation I and Business Taxation. The former is offered each term (fall, spring, and summer), and Business Taxation is offered during the fall and spring terms. To accommodate the College's part-time students, Basic Federal Taxation I is alternated with Business Taxation between the day and evening in the fall and spring.
In addition to these two courses, the College offers, usually once each year, U.S. Taxation of International Transactions and Estate and Gift Taxation, and several specialized courses may be offered depending upon student interest and faculty expertise, including Basic Federal Taxation II, Partnership Taxation, Multistate Taxation, Income Taxation of Trusts and Estates, Advanced Income Taxation, and Accounting for Lawyers.
In addition to these doctrinal courses, the College has one of the largest and most well-respected tax controversy Tax Clinics in the nation. Since 1992, it has represented over 2000 low-income individuals who have disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. Each term, approximately 25 law-students enroll in Tax Clinic I or II courses. The clinic is highly regarded in the local community, and it has received national recognition, as well. Representatives from the House Committee on Ways and Means, the Senate Finance Committee, the General Accounting Office, the Chief Counsel's Office of the IRS, and the Taxpayer Advocates National Office have visited and consulted with the clinic with respect to tax policy as it affects low-income individuals.
