Fall 2009 Orientation
Welcome to Orientation
Dear Student:
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Georgia State University College of Law. You are about to embark on a challenging and rewarding course of study, and it is our mission to support you in that endeavor.
As your legal education begins, we offer a three-day orientation program, from August 10th through 12th, to introduce you to the College of Law and what is expected of you during your course of study. Orientation activities include a variety of classes, presentations, meals, and receptions designed to provide helpful information about key aspects of our program and law school life. You will be introduced to faculty, students, and other members of the law school community. You will also meet some of our graduates, who, with the support of the State Bar of Georgia Committee on Professionalism, will present an important program on legal ethics and professionalism. The Orientation schedule and all related materials about specific sessions are available on this website. Your attendance at Orientation is MANDATORY.
You will attend your first classes in Research, Writing and Advocacy (RWA) and Legal Bibliography during Orientation.
Please note: Students who are enrolled in these courses in the day section must attend the RWA classes beginning at 1:00 p.m. and Legal Bibliography classes beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12th. Students who are enrolled in these courses in the evening section must attend the Legal Bibliography class Tuesday, August 11th at 8:15 p.m. and the RWA class Wednesday, August 12th at 6:30 p.m.
The class on Law School and the Legal System, the Professionalism program, and the RWA class have assignments which you must complete beforehand. These assignments and materials are available on the assignments page.
Parking at the student parking decks costs $4.50 per entry with a valid PantherCard. If you have not obtained your PantherCard, you will be charged the visitor parking rate of $6.00 per entry. Parking permits will be available at the Auxiliary and Support Services customer window to those students with a valid PantherCard. We recommend that you obtain your PantherCard and parking permit prior to Orientation once tuition and fees are paid in full.
I wish you every success as you embark on this exciting new challenge, and look forward to the opportunity to welcome you in person in August.
Sincerely,
