Elizabeth Lester (J.D. ’05) received the specialist counsel award at the 2017 Corporate Counsel Awards, which are sponsored by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and the Association of Corporate Counsel Georgia Chapter.

Lester serves as IP counsel for Equifax Inc. She manages and implements its global IP strategy, which requires her to identify intellectual property and the best way to protect it, which can range from filing patent applications to protecting the information as a trade secret.

“I am honored and grateful to receive this award from what I am sure was a very accomplished group of nominees,” Lester said. “In-house specialist counsel are frequently the only ones in the legal department with a particular skill set. It is both challenging and rewarding to be able to work with all of the other attorneys in the legal department on IP issues.

“I believe that my success is largely attributable to the fact that I am so passionate about what I do, and my company supports my involvement with professional and community activities,” Lester said.

Lester continues to be actively involved with Georgia State Law as a member of the Georgia State Law IP Advisory Board. She co-chaired the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition. She enjoys the opportunity to give back to Georgia State Law.

“I was very fortunate to have wonderful mentors when I was a law student,” Lester said. “It’s great to be able to pay it forward to the school that helped launch my career by mentoring law students and young attorneys. Being engaged with the law school and professional community also helps me stay better informed of ongoing legal developments.”

Lester will receive the award at a luncheon on Wednesday, May 10.
