STLA Earns Most Professional Team Award

Georgia State Law’s Student Trial Lawyers Association team received the “Most Professional Team” award in the Lone Star Classic Mock Trail Challenge on Oct. 17-19.

The team of Alex Galvan (J.D. ’14), Lynette Jimenez (J.D. ’14), A.J. Rosa (J.D. ’15) and Alexis Person (J.D. ’15) went undefeated going into the last preliminary round but fell just a few points shy of advancing to the semifinals. Galvan and Jimenez competed on last year’s Lone Star Classic team, which placed second.

A total of 16 teams competed from around the nation in the San Antonio competition. “This was one of our strongest performances,” Galvan says. “But we faced the three most difficult teams at the competition.”

The team, coached by former prosecutor and adjunct professor Tom Jones and Cheryl Champion-White (J.D. ’93), competed against Stetson University College of Law, South Texas University and University of Alabama in the competition.

“There is pride in the fact we did everything we were trained to do,” Galvan says.
